Toptreasures from around the world
top 5 treasures from around the worldUnlike many nearby islands with higher profiles and higher prices, Tybee Island isnt out to impress anyone. Its more akin to Coney Island than Jekyll Island, and therein lies its nostalgic charm imagine boardwalks, food vendors, and stalls selling beach themed kitsch. This is the kind of place where the restaurants have place mat menus and the lodgings are of the park at your door variety. Taxis Askinghow much they will charge you BEFORE you get into the taxi would be a good idea, however rides are metered except for a few flat rate routes, usually to and from airports, so the best you can come up with is an educated guess. The colorful Feast Day of San Antonio de Abad takes place in January, when residents are permitted to bring their animals into the cathedral to be blessed. The week long Festival of Silver, held at the end of November or beginning of December, offers concerts, rodeos and displays of some of the countrys finest silver. The towering India Gate, New Delhi answer to the Arc de Triomphe, stands in a massive park at the heart of the city. The sandstone and granite memorial commemorates the soldiers in the British Indian Army killed in World War I and in fighting in Afghanistan. The gate is a centerpiece of the grassy squares, wide walkways, mammoth government buildings and official bungalows designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens to house the British colonial capital in the 1920s and The park houses one of the largest and best maintained children playgrounds in the city. Made of thin red Byzantine brick, the walls surround the city on three sides, with Lake Iznik on the fourth. From the top, we saw the neat Roman street grid of the city on one side, dotted with mosque domes, and on the other, olive groves stretching out to the hills all around. Only after walking the north, east and south walls did we have to climb down for good upon returning to the lake..
